Wow, Mom, Wow!

Happy Mother's Day to all of you who embrace that title or fill that role in your families.

Most I know who identify as a  "mother," "mom," "madre," or the equivalent have been ON and on the job commencing with the conception of their first child. For adoptive moms, it's an obligation accepted long before any contract is inked.

It is daunting to imagine anyone focusing on and working tirelessly at a job for 24/7 even years after her job is theoretically  done. Such as when she launches her well-prepared adult kids into the world...and for all of the years that follow.

No matter the kid's ages and their strengths she helps them develop - moms like this prioritize their children's welfare long after many of them are very capable adults.

Happy Mother's Day and thanks  to my 84 year old mom who has been subdividing her love and attention between seven of us beginning over 65 years ago.

Happy Mother's Day and thanks to Kathy for loving and supporting our boys for over 29 years now!

Happy Mother's Day and thanks to my sister and sisters-in-law - and Happy Mother's Day and thanks to all of my friends and acquaintances who are moms - as well as to all of the devoted moms like this out there who I will never know - for nurturing and shaping your kids into solid, caring, contributing adults.

There's something to that phrase, "my mother, myself."  She gives.  We get.

Yes, it takes a village.  And I'm not discounting a dad's importance, especially dads who have to fill both roles. But it helps when your mom - or another person who has lovingly taken on that role - is in first position on the front lines for you.

Even after our moms leave the physical world, that constant interest in us lives on.  And our "villages" and society benefit, too. So to all of you who now fill that role - thanks!  Your positive contributions to your kids and to the world are exponential and immeasurable. Happy Mother's Day!
